Poestlingberg Hill

Cycling Passau-Vienna - Pilgrimage church on Poestlingberg Hill

The Poestlingberg is Linz’ local hill and offers a beautiful view of the town and surrounding country side. It’s easily accessible thanks to the Poestling mountain railway. It takes visitors and pilgrims to the top of the hill in only 20 minutes and has an interesting museum at the valley station. The pilgrimage church in honour of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows is located on a plateau and can be seen from afar. It was built by the Starhemberg family in a beautiful Baroque style in 1748.

Pöstlingbergkirche

Pilgrimage church on Poestlingberg Hill

The Poestlingberg hill was turned into a fortress in 1830. In a former fortified tower, a cave railway takes visitors on a trip through a fairy-tale landscape and a miniature version of Linz’ main square in the year 1900. There is an excellent network of hiking paths and Linz Zoo, which has beautiful outdoor enclosures, a hot house and a zoo school, is also located close to the hill.
