The Mühlviertel is an Austrian landscape full of contrasts - archaic granite formations and lush green meadows, mystical forests and rolling hills and idyllic rivers in between. The country and its people are refreshingly different and yet down-to-earth. Here, great value is placed on the original products of the region - be it the centuries-old beer tradition, fine cider, gingerbread, bacon dumplings or linen weaving and reverse glass painting. Discover and taste the special features of the region on your cycle tour in the Mühlviertel. You should bring a basic level of fitness for this tour; e-bikes are also ideal.
Day 1 Arrival in Linz
As the former European Capital of Culture, Linz has a lot to offer. Discover the old town and the modern museums or enjoy the view from the Pöstlingberg.
Day 2 Linz - Neustift, approx. 75 km/47 mi
Your first cycle tour takes you up the Danube to Obermühl, where it is worth tasting the award-winning musts. You cycle through the hilly countryside to Neustift, where a 4-course menu awaits you in the evening.
Day 3 Neustift - Aigen, approx. 40 km/25 mi
The route continues upwards towards the Bohemian Forest. The variety of medicinal plants and herbs in Austria's largest organic medicinal herb garden in Klaffer is fascinating. In Aigen, at the foot of the Bohemian Forest, the Premonstratensian monastery of Schlägl is enthroned. Enjoy a beer brewed according to centuries-old tradition.
Day 4 Aigen - Waxenberg, approx. 40 km/25 mi
The cycle tour in the Mühlenviertel highlands offers plenty of far-reaching views - on the one hand to the Dachstein and on the other to southern Bohemia. Here you can experience linen weaving and traditional agriculture. A 4-course Mühlviertel delicacy menu awaits you in the evening.
Day 5 Waxenberg - Freistadt, approx. 45 km/28 mi
If you make the effort to climb the steps of the Sternsteinwarte on the Sternstein, which was opened in 1899, you will be treated to a magical panoramic view of the Mühlviertel. Cycle through fields of herbs and past the typical gray and white Stoabloss houses to the beer town of Freistadt.
Day 6 Freistadt - Bad Zell, approx. 35 km/2 mi
Visit the medieval center of Freistadt before cycling through the Mühlviertel Nature Park to Bad Zell. The Hedwigsbründl contributed to the town's upswing. Enjoy a 5-course menu in the evening.
Day 7 Bad Zell - Linz, approx. 50 km/31 mi
Enjoy the last stage down to the Danube and back to Linz. Here you should definitely try a slice of genuine Linzer Torte at the Jindrack coffee house.
